FACE IN THE CROWD

created spring 1995 in college by Erika E & OC,SH’s founder Cort; further written by Cort & now adapted to publish here

LAST TIME:
New character sketches & the last part written in 1997, during lunch break at work, Monday, 02/17/1997, & Tuesday, 02/18/1997.

NOW:
Parts written during lunch at work, Friday, 01/23/1998, & Friday, 01/30/1998.

Nearly a year passed between times I wrote: Tuesday, 02/18/1997, & Friday, 01/23/1998. The delay was 2-fold: my lost interest (or, creativity) & waiting for a response from Erika to a letter I’d sent her in late February 1997. That letter included some additional ideas & new plots. She finally responded around Christmastime 1997. From the time I picked up writing again in late January 1998, I continued writing virtually non-stop that entire year (1998). As you will see going forward in the coming weeks-months, my creativity & plot-writing took off, becoming more intense & focused.

In jail, Alicia seems to be sobering up, or at least enough to convince Jackie (who has visited Alicia often) that she (Alicia) has paid heavily for her crime & is willing-able to live in society again.

Meanwhile, Christine & Steve conclude that Alicia has paid & will pay dearly for what she has done, so much so that Christine suggests to Steve that Alicia be “relieved”….

Jackie visits Steve to convince him to help find a way to allow Alicia to be released from jail early. However, Steve surprises Jackie by mentioning it before she (Jackie) can plead her case. When Jackie learns that Christine had already made the “formal” suggestion, Jackie is furious, deciding the best (& only) way to bring Christine down & out of Steve’s life is to use Olivia’s arrival in town to see Tammy.

Amy suspects someone has been following her, though she never catches anyone in the actual act of doing so. She tells Desmond (her Dad) her suspicions, but he’s too preoccupied with Virginia’s decreasing health to investigate. Amy also tells Richie (her brother), but he is focused on proving Julia is innocent in Laura’s disappearance. (Steve is beginning to wonder about Julia’s innocence, though Jackie supports Julia.)

Pastor Cathy suggests to Erika that she (Erika) tell the truth about her non-pregnancy & about paying Laura to leave town; Erika promises to do so.

Julia goes to see Jake to reassure him that she (Julia) was not responsible for Laura’s disappearance. Julia about has him convinced until Erika comes in & immediately re-accuses Julia, despite her recent promise.

While Michelle & Tammy argue about Matthew, Christine comes to “re-discuss” Olivia’s appearance in town.

NEXT TIME:
Post-college storyline continues with the next part written during lunch breaks at work, Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday, 02/02-03-04/1998.
