“Happy Days” aired 11 seasons on ABC, 01/15/1974 to 09/24/1984, with 255 episodes spanning those years. Originally based on a segment from ABC’s “Love, American Style” titled ‘Love & The Television Set’, the series was created by Garry Marshall, presenting an idealized vision of mid-1950s to mid-1960s US life.  Before the concept landed on “Love, American Style”, this series’ life started as an unsold pilot filmed in late 1971 titled “New Family In Town”; Paramount opted to not turn it into a weekly series &, instead, recycled the pilot as part of the “Love, American Style” lineup.  It was that late 1971 pilot that caught George Lucas’ eye, who immediately cast Ron Howard to play a teenager in the then-in-pre-production movie ‘American Graffiti’.  Set in Milwaukee WI, the Cunningham house is 565 N Clinton Dr, with the actual house located at 565 N Cahuenga Blvd in Los Angeles CA; Arnold’s was inspired by The Milky Way Drive-In, Port Washington Rd, Glendale WI.  Spinoffs include the equally popular “Laverne & Shirley” & “Mork & Mindy”, along with “Joanie Loves Chachi”, “Out Of The Blue” & “Blansky’s Beauties”.  In an ironic twist, Fred Silverman (CBS programming head) deliberately scheduled “Good Times” (a “Maude” spinoff) against “Happy Days” during each season’s respective 2nd year in an attempt to kill the ABC series popularity.  It worked, but backfired on Silverman, who was hired a year later as president of ABC.  So, by 1975, he had to come up with a way to save the show he tried to kill a year earlier.  By 1977, Silverman had “Happy Days” back at the top, while “Good Times” was canceled in 1979.  Cast includes: Ron Howard, Anson Williams, Marion Ross, Tom Bosley, Henry Winkler, Don Most, Erin Moran, Al Molinaro, Scott Baio, Lynda Goodfriend, Cathy Silvers, Ted McGinley & Linda Purl.  Notable recurring & guest stars include Beatrice Colen, Harris Kal, Crystal Bernard, Kevin Sullivan, Heather O’Rourke, Penny Marshall, Cindy Williams, Ellen Travolta, Alan Oppenheimer, Pat Morita, Henry Aaron, Frankie Avalon, Dr Joyce Brothers, Julie Brown, Morgan Fairchild, Lorne Greene, Tom Hanks, Christopher Knight, Cheryl Ladd, Michael McKean, Maureen McCormick, Danny Thomas & Robin Williams, among many others.
