#1 “Nobody Falls Like A Fool” | Earl Thomas Conley
Since I previously featured this artist HERE, I refer to that entry for some history & info about him. Meantime, this song debuted 09/14/1985, spent 22 weeks on the charts & claimed #1, the 3rd of 4 straight chart toppers, preceded in 1985 by “Honor Bound” & “Love Don’t Care” & followed in early 1986 by “Once In A Blue Moon”. Other familiar favorites include 1982’s “Somewhere Between Right & Wrong” (#1), 1984’s “Don’t Make It Easy For Me” (#1), 1984’s “Angel In Disguise” (#1) & 1984’s “Chance Of Loving You” (#1).

#2 “Love Out Loud” | Earl Thomas Conley
After 1986’s “Too Many Times” (duet with Anita Pointer) peaked at #2, breaking the string of chart toppers, he started a new string with 1986-7’s “I Can’t Win For Losing You”, which sparked a streak of 7 straight chart toppers. That run ended with this song, which hit the airwaves 03/18/1989, spent 21 weeks on the charts & claimed #1. It proved to be his last chart topper, with his last Top 10 being 1991’s “Brotherly Love” (#2, duet with Keith Whitley). Other chart toppers include 1987’s “That Was A Close 1” (which mentions the winter of 1979) & 1988-9’s “What I’d Say” (which has been relevant to me many times).

#3 “Hold Me” | KT Oslin
I previously featured this artist twice in 2015, 1st HERE … then HERE, so I’ll let those speak to info & history of her life & career. While not her best charting song (that title belongs to 1990’s “Come Next Monday”, which claimed #1 for 2 straight weeks), this is perhaps 1 of her signature tunes. Debuting 10/15/1988, this single spent 20 weeks on the charts, claimed #1 in early 1989 & became the second song of her short career to win the Song Of The Year & Female Vocal Grammys. The other tune to accomplish that feat? 1987’s “80’s Ladies”, which peaked at #7 & was her 1st Top 10 tune.

#4 “Time, Love & Tenderness” | Michael Bolton
This is, perhaps, my 2nd favorite song of Bolton’s, behind the tune featured in this July 2015 entry HERE. Written by Diane Warren, a popular songwriter, this single (poignant & uplifting) was released from his album of the same title in 1991 & peaked that same year at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. It came in the midst of a run that included familiar favorites as 1990’s “How Can We Be Lovers?” (#3, BH100), 1990’s “When I’m Back On My Feet Again” (#7, BH100) & 1991’s “When A Man Loves A Woman” (#1, BH100). Other popular tunes in his career include 1987’s “The Dock Of The Bay”, 1992’s “Steel Bars” & 1993’s “Said I Loved You…But I Lied”.

#5 “The Bluest Eyes In Texas” | Restless Heart
Prior features, in 2015 HERE & earlier this year HERE, will serve as references for info & history about this band, which had a hugely promising start to their career, before it faded away in the early 1990s. Before that happened, though, this song became the 5th in a string of 6 straight chart toppers. It hit the airwaves 05/21/1988 & spent 21 weeks on the charts, 1 of those at #1.

  1. I had to look up Restless Heart because it sounded familiar. I had the Big Iron Horses album. I couldn’t tell you what songs I liked on it now, though. Were they a crossover artist or considered strictly country?

  2. Originally, they were considered strictly country, Ben. But, with their ‘Big Dreams In A Small Town’ album, they had at least 1 decidedly rock-influenced track on it: “Calm Before The Storm”, which was previously featured in 2015 (linked in the entry above)…

The album you have was their next album. I also vaguely remember you liking 1 of their earlier tunes, “Why Does It Have To Be”, from their 2nd album ‘Wheels’.
