#1 “Strong Enough” | Sheryl Crow
Released 11/15/1994 from her album ‘Tuesday Night Music Club’, this song reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, 03/25/1995. This tune also notched at #3 on the Top 40 Mainstream, #10 on the Modern Rock Tracks, #11 on the Adult Contemporary & #12 on the Adult Top 40 charts. Internationally, it claimed #1 in Canada & reached #3 in Australia. Later, Crow performed the song live with the Dixie Chicks for her album ‘Sheryl Crow & Friends: Live from Central Park’. ~7 years after this song peaked on the charts, Travis Tritt wrote & released an answer song, 2002’s “Strong Enough To Be Your Man”. For Crow, this song followed 1994’s “All I Wanna Do” & preceded 1996’s “Everyday Is A Winding Road”.


#2 “Strong Enough” | Cher
Hitting the airwaves 5 years after Crow’s tune, this song was released 02/19/1999 as the 2nd single from her 22nd studio album, 1998’s ‘Believe’. While this song received favorable reviews, it did not chart well until the remixes were done & released. It peaked at #57 on the Billboard Hot 100, #40 on the Adult Top 40, #34 on the Top 40 Tracks, #31 on the Mainstream Top 40 & #29 on the Adult Contemporary charts, while finally cracking the Top 10 & claiming #1 on the Dance Club Songs chart. Internationally, however, it notched in the Top 10 of 15 charts, including in Austria (#4), Europe (#3), Finland (#7), France (#3), Germany (#3), Italy (#10), New Zealand (#6), Scotland (#4), Spain (#4), Switzerland (#5) & UK (#5). For Cher, this tune came near the end of a long career which included such familiar favorites as 1971’s “Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves”, 1987’s “I Found Someone”, 1989’s “If I Could Turn Back Time”, 1991’s “Love & Understanding” & 1998’s “Believe”.
