#1 “So Far Away” | Carole King
In my opinion, this poignant tune should be heard more often. The message is so relevant in today’s society
. King wrote this song, which is on her 1971 album ‘Tapestry’. The acoustic guitar heard on the recording is performed by James Taylor. Recorded January 1971, the song was released March 1971 & peaked at #3 on the Adult Contemporary chart, while reaching #14 on the Billboard Hot 100. 24 years later, Rod Stewart covered this song as part of the tribute album ‘Tapestry Revisited: A Tribute To Carole King’; his version was released as a single & notched at #2 on the Adult Contemporary chart.

#2 “So Far Away” | Nickelback
35 years after King’s tune graced the charts, this song debuted 02/13/2006 & reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 & #5 on the Adult Contemporary charts, while claiming #1 on the Mainstream Top 40 & Adult Top 40 charts. Apparently, to avoid confusion with King’s hit, this song’s name was shortened to “Far Away”. Internationally, this tune peaked at #2 in Australia & New Zealand, #17 in Ireland, #18 in Netherlands & #22 in Austria.
