TX Junkyard Jewel 1980s Chevy Celebrity:
(08/27/2016 photo by OC,SHer JAY B)
Contrary to popular belief, this is the car the Lumina replaced when it debuted in 1990. According to the book Chevrolet: The Complete History [copyright 1996 by Publications International LTD], on page 348: “With the new Lumina coupe & sedan effectively replacing their Celebrity counterparts….” Then, on page 359: “Taking the place of the aging Celebrity sedan was the Lumina sedan … a coupe version followed in the fall.” The Lumina shared types (Eurosport), dashboards (flat/horizontal), tail lights (3 square on each side, across the back panel, more or less) & front-wheel-drive with the outgoing Celebrity, nothing with the Monte Carlo (which the Lumina coupe became in 1995) or former Impala, which the Lumina sedan became in 2000. Intriguingly, many believe the Lumina replaced the MC, due to the Lumina’s use in NASCAR & the MC was the only 1 of the cousin names (Buick Regal, Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, Pontiac Grand Prix) to NOT appear on a front-wheel drive immediately after the original versions ended in 1987-8.
