WEDNESDAY WRAP

CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES

Ending today by listening to 2 same name songs, Rosanne Cash’s “Runaway Train” & Soul Asylum’s “Runaway Train” (both favorites of mine), while checking out the interior of a Junkyard Jewel 1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass wagon (the exterior of which was featured in today’s “From The Heart” HERE), photographed by OC,SHer JAY B….

#1 “Runaway Train” | Rosanne Cash
This song debuted 08/13/1988, spent 23 weeks on the charts & claimed #1. It was this Memphis TN-native singer-songwriter’s 5th straight chart topper, preceded by 1987’s “The Way We Make A Broken Heart”, 1987-8’s “Tennessee Flat Top Box”, 1988’s “It’s Such A Small World” (duet with then-husband Rodney Crowell) & 1988’s “If You Change Your Mind”. The daughter of Johnny Cash & Vivian Liberto, Rosanne also released a short-story collection in 1996, “Bodies Of Water”. Her brief singing career spanned from mid-late 1979 to mid 1991 with 25 releases, including 11 chart toppers & 5 additional Top 10 tunes. Other familiar favorites include 1981’s “7 Year Ache” (#1) & 1985’s “I Don’t Know Why You Don’t Want Me” (#1; Country Female Vocal Grammy).

#2 “Runaway Train” | Soul Asylum
Nearly 5 years after Rosanne’s smash, this power ballad hit the airwaves 06/01/1993 as the 4th single from the band’s 1992 album ‘Grave Dancers Union’. This tune quickly climbed, peaking between 1993 & 1994 at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, #3 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks, #13 on the Modern Rock Tracks & #15 on the Adult Contemporary charts. Internationally, it claimed #1 in Canada, while notching at #2 in New Zealand, Norway, Sweden & Switzerland; #3 in Austria & Netherlands; #4 in Germany; #6 in Ireland; #7 in England; #8 in Belgium; & #11 in Australia & Finland. While the band had moderate success on the Mainstream Rock Tracks & Modern Rock Tracks charts, their only other Top 20 tune on the BH 100 was 1995’s “Misery” (#20).
