‘Singing In The Rain’ is a 1952 musical comedy directed & choreographed by Gene Kelly & Stanley Donen & was conceived by MGM producer Arthur Freed as a stage for his songs (written with Nacio Herb Brown), including the title tune. Only a modest hit originally, it has obtained legendary status by critics & movie-watchers alike, now considered the best musical movie ever. The cast includes Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor, Debbie Reynolds, Jean Hagen, Millard Mitchell, Cyd Charisse, Douglas Fowley & Rita Moreno. Uncredited cast includes King Donovan, Judy Landon, Madge Blake, Kathleen Freeman, Bobby Watson, Jimmy Thompson & Mae Clarke. Widely referenced in popular culture, 1 example is Kelly’s hometown Pittsburgh Pirates playing a scene from the movie during rain delays at PNC Park.
