#1 “Rhythm Of The Night” | DeBarge
I absolutely loved this song as a kid & kept tuning to the “pop” stations to see if I could hear it … over & over & over again. Now, this is exactly what I need right now … some time out’n’about to forget the worries on my mind! Written by Diane Warren, this single was released 02/23/1985 from the Motown family singing group’s 4th studio album & became their biggest hit & the song that jump-started Warren’s career. The song’s debut coincided with the release of the Motown movie ‘The Last Dragon’, which featured it on the soundtrack, boosting the song’s exposure & eventual popularity. The group’s music video (below; check out the vintage cars in it!) obtained heavy rotation on MTV. The song reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart & claimed #1 on the Adult Contemporary & R&B-HipHop charts. Internationally, it notched at #3 in Canada & New Zealand, #4 in Netherlands & England, #5 in Ireland, #7 in Belgium & #9 in Australia.

#2 “Rhythm Of The Night” | Corona
~8 years after DeBarge’s smash, this song was released November 1993 as the lead single from this Italian band’s debut album of the same name. It became popular on dance floors, particularly with various remixes. Between 1994 & 1995, the song reached #11 on the Billboard Hot 100, #9 on the Billboard Top 40 Mainstream, #7 on the Hot Dance Club, #7 on the Rhythmic Top 40 & #5 on the Hot Dance Music charts. Internationally, the song claimed #1 for 8 consecutive weeks in the band’s native Italy, & notched in the Top 10 in 13 other countries, including Canada & England (#2), Ireland & France (#3), Denmark & Switzerland (#4), Austria (#6), New Zealand (#7), Australia (#8) & Germany (#8).
