SUNDAY STORY

Route 66-based story (by OC,SH’s founder, inspired by his 09/2009 Route 66 road trip)

CHAPTER 67: A SNACK OF PIE

After driving through Bloomington IL, the brothers next stopped at Funks Grove, ~4:30p, hoping to get some pure maple syrup, but they were greeted by this message:

They continued down Route 66 & stopped in Atlanta IL, arriving in town ~4:45p. Neither brother was all that hungry, so instead of a meal, they stopped at the Palms Grill Cafe for a drink & a snack … of pie. They walked around town a bit, seeing the Bunyan Statue, of course, & noticing the library:

Continuing down the road, a few minutes later, they stopped in Broadview IL to check out the display for the long gone Pig Hip Restaurant:

Traveling once again, they landed in Springfield shortly after 6p & went direct to the famous Cozy Dog for dinner. Then, they reached Springfield’s Route 66 Hotel & Conference Center ~7p. After checking in & unpacking the tan 1976 Caprice Classic sedan, they took their stuff to the room & walked around the hotel a bit, taking in the sights, like this:

Back in their room, the eldest marveled again at being on Route 66. He almost felt like he had to pinch himself to know it was real. Instead, he was jolted from his thoughts by his younger brother, who announced he was going to do a short, impromptu broadcast yet that evening….
