#1 “Give Me His Last Chance” | Lionel Cartwright
This song debuted 06/17/1989, spent 24 weeks on the country charts & peaked at #3. It was this Gallipolis OH-native singer-songwriter-guitarist’s 1st Top 10 tune & 3rd release. His brief career spanned November 1988 to November 1992, including 12 releases & 3 other Top 10s: 1990’s “I Watched It All On My Radio” (#8; my favorite of his), 1990’s “My Heart Is Set On You” (#7) & 1991’s “Leap Of Faith” (#1). I may be biased, but the “radio song” (official, creative video HERE) should’ve topped the charts!

#2 “No 1 Else On Earth” | Wynonna
Having recorded with her mother as part of The Judds duo 1983-1991, this Ashland KY-native singer-guitarist launched a solo career February 1992. Her 1st 2 releases topped the country charts with ease: 1992’s “She Is His Only Need” & 1992’s “I Saw The Light” (3 weeks). This tune, then, hit the airwaves 08/15/1992 & spent 20 weeks on the country charts, claiming #1 for 4 straight weeks. A remix edition (in the video linked below) was released to pop radio stations; that version reached #83 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart & established her as a crossover artist. Despite a run of 10 Top 10 country tunes February 1992 – August 1994 [including 1993’s “A Bad Goodbye” (#2; duet with Clint Black), 1993-4’s “Is It Over Yet” (#6) & 1994’s “Rock Bottom” (#2)], she only had 1 other solo chart topper the rest of her career: 1996’s “To Be Loved By You”. After that hit, none of the rest of her 16 releases reached the Top 10; the April 1996 – October 2005 stretch included a few Top 15s, including 1997-8’s “Come Some Rainy Day”, a poignant tune. Her sister is, of course, well-known actress Ashley Judd, but Wynonna guest-starred on CBS’ “Touched By An Angel”.
