Wednesday’s Leadoff Drive: Day 6.
“Coast-to-Coast” Road Trip, 06/29/2011.
5 years ago this very date & day, I traveled from Tulsa OK to Wichita KS. After leaving the hotel early AM, my stops-visits during today’s drive included Stroud OK (Rock Cafe) & Chandler OK (to see Jerry McClanahan, who created the Route 66 EZ Guide; during my September 2009 Route 66 road trip, I stopped here, but he was not home). I arrived at the home of friends & OC,SHers JAKE & MEL L (with whom I’d stayed during prior road trips) ~2:55p US central. We considered going to see the at-the-time new movie ‘CARS 2’, but a need to take the 2011 Dodge Charger in for an oil change & dinner plans made that impossible. Along with their son Chance, 3 other friends who live in the area joined us for dinner, 1 of which used to live in Elgin & the other had met me during my 1st trip to Wichita a few years prior.
