SUNDAY STORY

Route 66-based story (by OC,SH’s founder, inspired by his 09/2009 Route 66 road trip)

CHAPTER 65: SAYING GOODBYE

After the 2-hour broadcast, the brothers & their cousin & his wife spent about another hour chatting & roaming around the Illinois Route 66 Hall Of Fame & Museum in Pontiac IL. The eldest snapped more pics, including Bob Waldmire’s VW Bus:

(I took both photos 06/27/2011, during my “Coast-to-Coast” road trip.)

Just before 3p, the eldest mentioned they ought to get back on the road. The brothers wanted to stop in Springfield IL for the evening, & the eldest projected they’d be on the road for ~3 more hours, if they wanted to stop to see things along the way. While that would put them in Springfield “early”, ~6p, the brothers had already agreed, while they were planning the road trip, they wouldn’t be on the road much later than 6p or 7p each evening, to ensure they were able to see the sights along the way.

Their cousin & his wife said their goodbyes & left to go back home to Dwight IL. The eldest was relieved they’d been able to help them, despite the weird way they 1st learned about what was happening. Even so, the eldest thought, at least all is well now.

Turning his attention back to the road trip, he helped his younger brother load the Caprice with the equipment they’d brought in for the broadcast. Just after 3p, they were in the car & on their way “down the road” out of Pontiac IL. They both were looking forward to what was waiting for them.
