CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES
Ending today by listening to a pair of same name songs, The Cure’s “Pictures Of You” & The Last Goodnight’s “Pictures Of You”, while checking out the interior of a Junkyard Jewel Camaro, photographed by OC,SHer JAY B….
#1 “Pictures Of You” | The Cure
Released 03/19/1990 as the 4th & final single from this band’s 1989 album ‘Disintegration’, this song has been called “chilly goth-rock” & “accessible synth-pop”. The single version is considerably shorter than the album cut, which itself has several different mixes, including a version longer than the album edition. The inspiration for this song came after a fire engulfed Robert Smith’s home. When Smith went through the remains, he came across his wallet with pictures of his wife, Mary. The single wasn’t exactly a hit; it managed #19 on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart but faltered at #71 on the Billboard Hot 100. The single’s best performance was in Ireland, were it cracked the Top 10 at #9. Elsewhere, it notched at #89 in Australia, #27 in England & #18 in Germany. Even so, the song managed wide recognition with appearances in such TV shows as “1 Tree Hill”, “Cold Case”, “Gilmore Girls”, “Without A Trace” & “Misfits”, as well as movies like ‘The Vow’, ‘Starter For 10’ & ‘White Bird In A Blizzard.’
#2 “Pictures Of You” | The Last Goodnight
17 years after The Cure’s song, this single hit the airwaves 06/12/2007, the 1st release from this band’s debut album ‘Poison Kiss’. Between late 2007 & early 2008, this song reached #9 on the Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks, #29 on the Top 40 Mainstream, #53 on the Pop 100 & #70 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Internationally, it reached #2 in Czech Republic, #3 in Australia, #4 in Poland, #7 in Italy, #15 in Sweden, #24 in Austria & #25 in Germany. Recognition of the song was boosted somewhat with ABC’s use of it to promote the 2nd season of “Brothers & Sisters”. This is the band’s only hit & a favorite of mine.
