Do you remember this series!?
What catches your spying-eye radar!?
“Adam-12”, a police drama about 2 police officers (Martin Milner as “Pete Malloy” & Kent McCord as “Jim Reed”) of the Los Angeles Police Department, originally aired 09/21/1968 to 05/20/1975. Created by RA Cinader & Jack Webb (known for “Dragnet”), this show captured a typical day for a police officer as realistically as possible & helped introduce police procedures & jargon to the United States general public. Filming was done in LA, with the LAPD Rampart Division (2710 W Temple St) serving as the setting, even though the “1-Adam-12” radio call sign would’ve been from the Central Division, not Rampart’s Division 2. In creating this series, Webb wanted the police car to be a character as well; so, the cars were purchased from local dealerships & then outfitted by the prop department to LAPD cruiser specs. For the pilot, a 1967 Plymouth Belvedere starred. Season 1 featured a 1968 Plymouth Belvedere, Seasons 2-3 featured a 1969 Plymouth Belvedere, Season 4 featured a 1971 Plymouth Satellite & Seasons 5-7 featured 1972-1973 AMC Matadors. Since this series shared the same “universe” as other Mark VII shows, several crossovers with “Dragnet” & “Emergency!” were done. A somewhat paradox, tho, occurred when an episode of “Emergency!” featured “Adam-12” as a show the paramedics like to watch! Guest stars on “Adam-12” included: Cloris Leachman, James Sikking, Karen Black, Hal Smith, Barry Williams, Dick Sargent, Harry Dean Stanton, David Cassidy, Jodie Foster, George Maharis, Linda Kaye, Lindsay Wagner, Ozzie Nelson, Robert Conrad, Barbara Hale, Dick Clark, Sharon Gless, Dick Van Patten & Mark Harmon.
