In the United States, today is National Loomis Day, National Hole In My Bucket Day, National Mint Julep Day & National Water A Flower Day! However, the most important observance today is Memorial Day. This special federal holiday remembers those who’ve died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. The designation originated as Decoration Day, after the 1868 Civil War, when the Decatur IL Grand Army Of The Republic (an organization of Union veterans) established it as a time to decorate graves of the Union war dead with flowers. In the 1900s, competing Union & Confederate traditions merged to form Memorial Day. How will you observe this marker?
