CHAPTER 62: A BARN SIGN
While the brothers & their cousin & his wife checked out the Standard Oil Gas Station in Odell IL, the shopkeeper was en route to the family business to spend the day hanging out with the brothers’ sister. On the way, he stopped at the eldest’s home to check on it & the eldest’s maroon 1976 Caprice Classic sedan, as he’d promised he’d do while the brothers were on their Route 66 road trip. Nothing seemed out of place or out of the ordinary & the Caprice started up just fine, so the shopkeeper continued on to the family business.
By the time the shopkeeper arrived at the business, where the sister was already greeting early morning visitors, the brothers & their cousin & his wife were back on Route 66. They stopped briefly at the “Meramec Caverns” barn:

After about 5 minutes there, they drove the rest of the way to Pontiac IL, arriving in town just before 9:30a. They then spent an our at the Pontiac-Oakland Museum, arriving at the Illinois Route 66 Hall Of Fame & Museum [from where the youngest brother planned to do his live WSM radio broadcast starting around noon US central time] just before 11a.

Did you go to Meramec? I’ve been there twice and found them amazing!
Yes, during my September 2009 Route 66 road trip, I stopped at Meramec. However, I got in too late & left too early to visit the caverns-caves. Hopefully another time!
