Do you remember this series!?
What catches your spying-eye radar!?
“Hawaii 5-0” is a police procedural drama, originally airing on CBS, 09/20/1968 to 04/06/1980. When it ended, it was, at the time, the longest-running cop show in TV history. While sources differ on how the show was conceptualized, the series got its name to honor Hawaii as the 50th state in the United States. Filming was done almost entirely on location in Hawaii (which was only a state for 9 years when the show started), with some filming done in the Los Angeles area as well. This show is also noted for the extensive exterior on location shooting, with at least 2/3rds of each episode showcasing different Hawaii locations. The theme song, composed by Morton Stevens & recorded by the Ventures, reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The cast includes Jack Lord, James MacArthur, Kam Fong, Zulu, Herman Wedemeyer, Danny Kamekona, Al Harrington, Douglas Mossman, Amanda McBroom, William Smith, Sharon Farrell, Moe Keale, Richard Denning, Maggi Parker, Peggy Ryan & Glenn Cannon. Recurring characters were portrayed by Khigh Dhiegh, Harry Endo, Brian Tochi, Al Eben & Morgan White. When this series ended in 1980, “Magnum PI” (previously featured HERE) became it’s direct replacement, literally & figuratively, with Magnum referencing 5-0 directly.
