#1 “The Ride” | David Allan Coe
This poignant & eery song hit the airwaves 03/19/1983, spent 19 weeks on the country charts & peaked at #4. It was just this Akron OH-native singer-songwriter’s 2nd Top 10 hit (behind 1975’s “You Never Even Called Me By My Name”, #8) in 19 releases. Considered 1 of the greatest “outlaw” singers of all-time, he also acted, appearing in such movies as ‘Take This Job & Shove It’, ‘The Last Days Of Frank & Jesse James’ & ‘Stagecoach’. After this hit, he released 12 more tunes, with only 1 reaching the Top 10: 1984’s “Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile” (#2).

#2 “I Don’t Want To Live Without Your Love” | Chicago
This song was written by Diane Warren & Albert Hammond for this group, which recorded it for their 1988 album ‘Chicago 19’. The 1st single released from the album, the tune (with Bill Champlin on lead vocals) debuted 05/20/1988 & reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 & #5 on the Adult Contemporary charts later that year. The album’s 2nd release, “Look Away”, claimed #1 on both charts. Other familiar tunes include 1972’s “Saturday In The Park” (#3, BH 100), 1976’s “If You Leave Me Now” (#1, BH 100), 1982’s “Hard To Say I’m Sorry” (#1, BH 100), 1984’s “Hard Habit To Break” (#3, BH 100) & 1989’s “What Kind Of Man Would I Be?” (#5, BH 100).
