#1 “Jacob’s Ladder” | Huey Lewis & The News
This song (set in Birmingham AL) was written in 1986 by brothers Bruce & John Hornsby & recorded that year by Lewis & The News for their album ‘Fore!’. Released 01/05/1987 as the 3rd single from that album, this song claimed #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 1 week, March 1987, & also reached #17 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Elsewhere, if reached #16 in Canada & #48 in Australia. A year later, Bruce Hornsby recorded his own version for his 1988 album ‘Scenes From The Southside’.

#2 “Jacob’s Ladder” | Mark Wills
10 years after the prior song was written & 9 years after it charted, this song hit the airwaves 06/08/1996, spent 20 weeks on the country charts & peaked at #6. It was this Cleveland TN-native singer-songwriter’s 1st release. His brief career featured 7 more Top 10 tunes, including 2 chart toppers, both favorites of mine: 1999’s “Wish You Were Here” & 2002-3’s “19 Somethin’” (6 weeks).
