George Strait is a Poteet TX-native singer-guitarist whose career began May 1981 & continues today. He served in the US Army (1972-1974), graduated with a degree in agriculture (Southwest TX State) & starred in the movie ‘Pure Country’. Along with the 2 songs below, other familiar favorites: 1982’s “Fool Hearted Memory” (#1), 1982-3’s “Marina Del Ray” (#6), 1987’s “Ocean Front Property” (#1), 1987’s “All My Exes Live In Texas” (#1), 1988’s “Baby Blue” (#1), 1990’s “Love Without End, Amen” (#1; 5 weeks), 1991’s “If I Know Me” (#1; 2 weeks), 1991’s “You Know Me Better Than That” (#1; 3 weeks), 1993’s “Heartland” (#1), 1993’s “Easy Come, Easy Go” (#1; 2 weeks), 1993-4’s “I’d Like To Have That 1 Back” (#3), 1995’s “Check Yes Or No” (#1; 4 weeks), 1996’s “Blue Clear Sky” (#1; 2 weeks), 1996’s “I Can Still Make Cheyenne” (#4), 1999’s “Write This Down” (#1; 4 weeks), 2000’s “The Best Way” (#1; 3 weeks), 2002’s “Living & Living Well” (#1; 2 weeks), 2006’s “Give It Away” (#1; 2 weeks) & 2008’s “I Saw God Today” (#1; 2 weeks).

#1 “The Chair”
This song debuted 09/21/1985, spent 22 weeks on the charts & claimed #1, his 7th chart topper & 13th Top 10. My best memory of this song is a college professor in the communications department using it as an example in a communications course I was taking. While I don’t remember the exact context of the use, I distinctly remember her mentioning me by name as having played it on my radio show … & that’s when she got the idea to use it!

#2 “Ace In The Hole”
This song hit the airwaves 08/12/1989, spent 21 weeks on the charts & claimed #1, the last in a string of 11 straight chart toppers, sparked by 1986’s “Nobody In His Right Mind Would’ve Left Her”. Had the prior release, 1986’s “Your Something Special To Me” (#4), reached the top of the charts, he would’ve had 13 straight #1 tunes, including “The Chair”.
