#1 “Heaven” | Bryan Adams
Co-written by Adams & Jim Vallance, this song was recorded by Adams in 1983 & 1st appeared on the soundtrack to the movie ‘A Night In Heaven’. Then, it was included on Adams’ 1984 album ‘Reckless’, from which it was released as the 3rd single 04/09/1985, marking the song’s 1st official release as a single. That June, the song claimed #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, over 1.5 years since it had 1st appeared on a record; it also peaked at #12 on the Adult Contemporary chart. This song was written while Adams (a Canadian singer) served as the opening act for Journey’s Frontiers Tour, so Journey’s hit “Faithfully” heavily influenced this song. When session drummer Mickey Curry had to leave due to a prior commitment to Hall & Oates, Adams called on Journey drummer Steve Smith to appear on this song with him. In 1985, the song also peaked at #12 in Australia, #11 in Canada, #11 in Ireland, #3 in Norway, #9 in Spain & #8 in Sweden.
#2 “Heaven” | Warrant
4 years later, this power ballad hit the charts 07/22/1989 as the 2nd single from this band’s album ‘Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich’. This song became the band’s most-successful commercial tune, spending 2 weeks at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 (kept from the top spot by Milli Vanilli’s “Girl I’m Gonna Miss You”), & reaching #3 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Once the appeal of the song became widespread, the band’s record company instructed them to re-record the track to give it “bigger radio sound”. The video starred Scottish model Tracy Allan & was filmed during a live concert at Kansas City MO’s Sandstone Ampitheater. Elsewhere, the song reached #5 in Canada & #4 in Norway.
