#1 “Give A Little Love” | Bay City Rollers
Written by John Goodison & Phil Wainman, this song was released in 1975 from the band’s album ‘Wouldn’t You Like It’. That July, the single perched at the top of the England charts for 3 weeks; it was the band’s 2nd & final chart topper in England & was Britain’s 11th biggest hit of the year. It was not released in the United States or Canada; however, their follow-up hit, “Saturday Night”, claimed #1 in both countries while not charting in England. The single was released, though, in Ireland (#1), Australia (#2) & Germany (#11).
#2 “Give A Little Love” | The Judds
13 years later, this tune hit the airwaves; it debuted 06/11/1988 & spent 17 weeks on the country charts, 2 of those at its peak of #2. While it broke a string of 3 straight chart toppers for the Daughter-Mother pair, it won the Country Vocal Duo Grammy. From Ashland KY, Naomi (mom) & Wynonna (daughter) broke into the country scene with their 2nd release, 1984’s “Mama He’s Crazy” (#1; Country Vocal Duo Grammy). 7 more straight chart toppers followed, before their cover of “Don’t Be Cruel” (1987) just barely reached the Top 10 (#10). After this tune, the duo notched 3 more chart toppers & 4 additional Top 10 tunes before Naomi was forced to retire in 1991.
