CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES
2 songs from the 3rd hour (9p-10p) of my 09/23/1995 college radio show: “I Feel Lucky” by Mary Chapin-Carpenter & “Heart Don’t Fall Now” by Sawyer Brown. Also featured: a maroon beauty, photographed by OC,SHer SAMUEL E W at the Knoepfler Chevrolet Car Show, Sioux City IA, 06/272015….
#1 “I Feel Lucky” | Mary Chapin Carpenter
This song debuted 05/30/1992, spent 20 weeks on the charts & peaked at #4; it also won her the Country Female Vocal Grammy. It was this Princeton NJ native’s 4th Top 10, behind 1989’s “Never Had It So Good” (#8), 1990’s “Quittin’ Time” (#7) & 1991’s “Down At The Twist & Shout” (#2; Country Female Vocal Grammy). While her Dad was an executive with ‘Life’ magazine, Mary pursued singing-songwriting; she is perhaps an underrated singer, having only 1 chart topper: 1994’s “Shut Up & Kiss Me” (also won her a Country Female Vocal Grammy).

#2 “Heart Don’t Fall Now” | Sawyer Brown
Whenever I am on the radio, I particularly love playing the “lesser known” songs because sometimes those spark more memories. Such is the case here; hitting the airwaves 02/01/1986, this single spent 18 weeks on the charts & peaked at #14, breaking a string of 3 straight Top 10s: 1985’s “Step That Step” (#1; their 2nd release), 1985’s “Used To Blue” (#3; my favorite of theirs) & 1985’s “Betty’s Bein’ Bad” (#5). This band formed in Nashville TN & won 1st prize on TV’s “Star Search” in 1984. Their 1st release, 1984-5’s “Leona”, peaked at #16. In the late 1980s, they notched only 2 Top 10s: 1987-8’s “This Missin’ You Heart Of Mine” (#2, another favorite of mine) & 1989’s “The Race Is On” (#5). Then, in the 1990s, their career took off with 8 straight Top 10s, including 2 chart toppers: 1992’s “Some Girls Do” & 1993’s “Thank God For You” (2 weeks). Their last 2 Top 10s both peaked at #6: 1997’s “This Night Won’t Last Forever” & 1998-9’s “Drive Me Wild”.
