#1 “Fame” | David Bowie
Written by Bowie, Carlos Alomar & John Lennon, Bowie originally recorded it. The single was released 07/25/1975 from Bowie’s album ‘Young Americans’; it became his biggest hit in the United States at that point, being his 1st Top 10 & chart topper on the Billboard Hot 100. Meanwhile, in England, this song only reached #17. Bowie noted that this song was written with a “degree of malice”, aimed at the management group he was partnered with at the time.

#2 “Fame” | Irene Cara
5 years later, this song hit the airwaves. Written by Michael Gore & Dean Pitchford, this song’s chart success was partly due to its being the theme song of the movie & TV series of the same name. Cara originated the role of Coco Hernandez in the movie. Originally released June 1980, the song peaked that year at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, while claiming #1 in England, Ireland, Netherlands & New Zealand. Elsewhere, the song peaked at #3 in Australia, #2 in France, & #3 in Sweden. The song also won the 1980 Best Original Song Academy & Golden Globe Awards.
