Have you seen this movie!?
I chose this film to feature today because we’re in the middle of CHD Awareness Week, 02/07-14/2016. ‘Untamed Heart’, written by Tom Sierchio, is a romantic comedy that debuted in theaters 02/12/1993, 23 years ago tomorrow (Friday, 02/12/2016). The plot of the movie includes 1 of the main characters, Adam, having a heart defect. The original name was “The Baboon Heart” in honor of an infant named Baby Fae (born 10/14/1984) who received a cross-species heart transplant from a baboon to repair a Congenital Heart Defect (CHD). Filming on location in Minnesota (movie is set in Minneapolis) took place in 1992, starting in March. Several winter scenes were actually shot in May, causing the crew to create fake snow to maintain the “cold” illusion. One scene was at the Met Center (home of the Minnesota North Stars at the time), & other scenes were filmed on location at the feature’s centerpiece, Jim’s Coffee Shop & Bakery, which existed at that time but was closed to the public during filming. The cast includes Marisa Tomei (as “Caroline”), Christian Slater (as “Adam”), Rosie Perez (as “Cindy”), Kyle Secor (as “Howard”) & Willie Garson (as “Patsy”). Tomei got the nod for the role because director Tony Bill noticed her success in ‘My Cousin Vinny’.
