‘The Seven-Ups’ (which I’ve not seen in its entirety) is a 1973 (my birth year) dramatic thriller produced & directed by Philip D’Antoni (who also produced ‘Bullitt’), opening in theaters 12/14/1973. Originally announced July 1971, Canadian TV scribe Philip Hersch was hired to write the script based on the real lives of Sonny Grosso & Eddie Egan. Filming locations include Manhattan, Brooklyn, New Jersey, Westchester County & Bronx. The epic chase sequence near the middle of the film was created by Bill Hickman (who also aided in scenes with ‘Bullitt’). Gerald B Greenberg edited the sequence, filmed in & around Upper Manhattan New York City on the George Washington Bridge, New Jersey’s Palisades Interstate Parkway & NY’s Taconic State Parkway. The 2 cars destroyed in the scene are both brand new 1973 models: Pontiac Grand Ville & Pontiac Ventura. The cast includes Roy Scheider, Tony Lo Bianco, Larry Haines, Richard Lynch & Ken Kercheval.
