Ending today by listening to a pair of same name songs, Kenny Rogers’ “Blaze Of Glory” & Jon Bon Jovi’s “Blaze Of Glory”, while checking under the hood of this 2-tone beauty, photographed by OC,SHer CHRIS L S at the 2015 Ocean Gate Car Show….
#1 “Blaze Of Glory” | Kenny Rogers
Of these 2 same-name hits, this debuted 1st, 11/14/1981, spent 16 weeks on the country charts & peaked at #9 in early 1982; it crossed over & reached #66 on the Billboard Hot 100. In a stretch of 23 straight Top 10 tunes, this was 1 of 2 which did not reach the Top 5 during that string, early January 1977 to late January 1983. The other non-top 5 was 1977’s “Sweet Music Man” (#9). This Houston TX-native singer-songwriter-guitarist (who formed his band 1st Edition in 1967) has enjoyed a long country career, which began in mid 1969 with the Top 10 pop hit “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town” (#6, Billboard Hot 100). 1977’s “Lucille” became his 1st country Top 10 & #1 smash, spending 2 weeks atop the charts & garnering CMA’s Single Of The Year & Song Of The Year, as well as the Country Male Vocal Grammy. He also starred in the movie ‘6 Pack’, as well as several TV movies, including ‘The Gambler’ (based on his song), ‘Coward Of The County’ (based on his song), ‘Wild Horses’ & ‘Rio Diablo’.
#2 “Blaze Of Glory” | Jon Bon Jovi
This song (previously featured HERE) hit the airwaves ~9 years later, 07/21/1990. Bon Jovi recorded this song because Emilio Estevez asked to use his hit “Wanted Dead Or Alive” for the soundtrack to ‘Young Guns II’; Bon Jovi did not think that song’s lyrics fit the theme of the Western movie. So, instead, Bon Jovi wrote this song specifically for the film. Bon Jovi’s tune claimed #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 & Mainstream Rock charts & also hit the top of charts in Australia, Canada & New Zealand. This song is his only chart topper (& only Top 10) as a solo artist away from his Bon Jovi band. Elsewhere, this single reached the Top 10 in Austria, Finland, Ireland, Norway, Sweden & Switzerland.
