‘The Gumball Rally’, inspired by the Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash (run by Brock Yates), opened in theaters 08/20/1976. While most of the filming took place in Arizona, opening scenes of the race were filmed in downtown New York City NY early on a Sunday morning on closed roads (including Broadway & Park Avenue). The George Washington Bridge & Lincoln Tunnel were used as the exit from NY into NJ. Final scenes were shot in California.
