Ending “Worktruck Wednesday” by listening to same name songs (more common than you might think), Bee Gee’s “Alone” vs. Heart’s “Alone”, while checking under the hood of a Chevrolet truck, photographed by OC,SHer CHRIS L S at the 2015 Ocean Gate Car Show….
#1 “Alone” | Heart
Of these 2 same-name hits, this was released 1st, 05/16/1987. Composed by Billy Steinberg & Tom Kelly, this song originally appeared 4 years earlier on their 1983 project, I-Ten, for the album ‘Taking A Cold Look’. A year later, Valerie Stevenson & John Stamos recorded it as Lisa Copley & Gino Minelli for the soundtrack of the CBS sitcom “Dreams”. This song was then sold to Heart, who released it as the 1st single from their 9th studio album, ‘Bad Animals’. This power ballad ruled the charts the summer of 1987, claiming #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, while reaching #2 on the Adult Contemporary & #3 on the Mainstream Rock charts. It was a hit internationally, too, claiming #1 on 2 Canadian charts & reaching the Top 10 in 7 other countries.
#2 “Alone” | Bee Gees
10 years later, this group enjoyed a resurgence with this song, released as the 1st single from their 1997 album ‘Still Waters’. Barry, Robin & Maurice Gibb wrote & recorded this song in 1996. Officially hitting the airwaves 02/17/1997, this pop ballad peaked at #28 on the Billboard Hot 100, but was a huge hit elsewhere, claiming #1 in Hong Kong, Malaysia & Thailand, while reaching the Top 5 in 5 more countries (including New Zealand, Austria & England) & the Top 10 in 7 additional countries (including Germany, Australia, Denmark, Switzerland & Canada). This particular tune was covered by Monty Homes in 1998 & reached #53 on the country charts.
