“Friends In Low Places” | Garth Brooks
This song hit the airwaves 08/18/1990, spent 20 weeks on the country charts & claimed #1 for 4 straight weeks. It was his 5th overall release, 5th straight Top 10 & 3rd chart topper. Many people think this song put the Oklahoma-native singer-songwriter-guitarist on the map, but that distinction really belongs to his prior release, mid 1990’s “The Dance”, which had claimed #1 for 3 straight weeks. While he continues to perform today, his biggest success came throughout the 1990s. After a stint of recording & releasing songs as “Chris Gaines”, he came back in the mid 2000s with a pair of Top 10 songs: 2005’s “Good Ride Cowboy” (a tribute to Chris LeDoux) & 2007’s “More Than A Memory” (which has the distinction of being the only song to debut at #1). My favorites of his include 1991’s “The Thunder Rolls” (#1, 2 weeks), 1992’s “What She’s Doing Now” (#1, 4 weeks) & 1993’s “Learning To Live Again” (#2). While I don’t have the live version (as featured in this video), I was exposed to the live version when my parents, sister & I saw him in concert as the lead for The Judds farewell tour.
