#1 “The Wanderer” | Eddie Rabbitt
This song (which I have on VINYL record) debuted 05/28/1988, spent 18 weeks on the country charts & claimed #1. Near the end of his career (which spanned mid 1974 to mid 1991), this song was followed by his last chart topper, 1989-90’s “On 2nd Thought”. Prior to this song, he’d notched 15 #1 tunes & 15 additional Top 10 tunes. Rabbitt’s career was sparked when Elvis Presley recorded “Kentucky Rain”, which Rabbitt penned. A native of Brooklyn NY, Rabbitt died 05/07/1998 of cancer.
#2 “I Dream Of Women Like You” | Ronnie McDowell
Hitting the airwaves 02/25/1984, this song spent 19 weeks on the country charts & peaked at #7. Though it was popular when I was a kid, this song now is 1 of those with which I can nearly 100% identify … & it remains a favorite of mine. McDowell, a native of Fountain Head TN, began his singing career in 1968 while serving in the Navy; then, in the early 1970s, he worked as a commercial sign painter. His 1st release was 1977’s “The King Is Gone”, a tribute to Elvis Presley, which reached #13 on both the country & Billboard Hot 100 charts. An underrated singer, his career spanned late 1977 to early 1991 & featured only 2 chart toppers: 1981’s “Older Women” & 1983’s “You’re Gonna Ruin My Bad Reputation”. Other familiar tunes include 1982’s “Step Back” (#7), 1983’s “Personally” (#10) & 1983-4’s “You Made A Wanted Man Of Me” (#3).
Nice Mustang. Those songs are so 80’s.
