Have you seen this movie!? Anything catch your spying-eye radar!?
‘A Christmas Story’ is a 1983 comedy film based on the short stories & semi-fictional anecdotes written by Jean Shepherd in his book “In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash”. Directed by Bob Clark, this movie opened to moderate success, but has since become a holiday classic with airings multiple times on several networks each season. Set in fictional Hohman IN (based on Shepherd’s Hammond IN hometown), local references include the Warren G Harding Elementary School, Cleveland Street, Griffith IN, the Indianapolis 500, Terre Haute IN & the Chicago Bears. However, filming was done primarily in the Ceveland OH area, with Higbee’s Department Store (downtown Cleveland) serving as the stage for 3 scenes. The cast includes Peter Billingsley (“Ralphie”), Jean Shepherd (narrator, adult Ralphie; a technique later used in TV’s “The Wonder Years”), Ian Petrella, Melinda Dillon, Darren McGavin, Scott Schwartz, RD Robb, Zach Ward, Yano Anaya, Tedde Moore & Jeff Gillen (“Santa Claus”). MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE!
