Have you seen this movie!? Anything catch your spying-eye radar!?
When I was a kid, ‘The Sound Of Music’ was on TV once a year & that was always a special evening. Even though I knew the storyline &, in later years, could just about recite the movie verbatim (well, except for the singing), I always looked forward to seeing it. Speaking of singing, this Sunday, 12/20/2015, ABC-TV is presenting a “sing-a-long” version, 6p-10p US central! This movie was originally released to theaters March 1965 as an adaptation of the 1959 Broadway musical of the same name, which was based on Maria Von Trapp’s memoir, “The Story Of The Trapp Family Singers”. Since it’s release, the film has become a classic, & despite mixed initial reviews, the movie won 5 Academy Awards (including Best Picture & Best Director) & 2 Golden Globe Awards (Best Motion Picture & Best Actress). While Ernest Lehman (wrote the film screenplay) had Julie Andrews in mind to play the lead roll, other actresses considered to play “Maria” included Grace Kelly & Shirley Jones. Actors considered for the role of “Captain” included Bing Crosby, Sean Connery & Richard Burton; Christopher Plummer finally accepted it after he was reassured the character would be improved for the movie. Before Richard Haydn was hired to portray “Max Detweiler”, Victor Borge & Hal Holbrook were among others considered for the role. The movie cast also includes Eleanor Parker (as “Baroness”), Peggy Wood (as “Mother Abbess”), Charmian Carr (as “Liesl”), Nicholas Hammond (as “Friedrich”), Heather Menzies (as “Louisa”), Duane Chase (as “Kurt”), Angela Cartwright (as “Brigitta”), Debbie Turner (as “Marta”), Kym Karath (as “Gretl”), Anna Lee (as “Sister Margaretta”), Portia Nelson (as “Sister Berthe”), Ben Wright (as “Herr Zeller”), Daniel Truhitte (as “Rolfe”), Norma Varden (as “Frau Schmidt”), Gil Stuart (as “Franz”), Marni Nixon (as “Sister Sophia”) & Evadne Baker (as “Sister Bernice”).
