Remember this series!? What catches your spying-eye radar!?
Anyone else re-create the highway collisions that became a staple of the show!? “CHiPs”, created by Rick Rosner, is yet another childhood favorite of mine. It originally aired 09/15/1977 to 05/01/1983. Each episode was a mix of drama & light comedy, with at least 1 roll call, a light-hearted subplot, a drama-filled plot & a sideshow of the police department members outside of work. Filming locations were generally in California’s San Fernando Valley, with freeway crashes staged on recently-constructed highways (not yet open to the public). Season 1 incidents were created on the Glendale Freeway (HW 2), Montrose CA; Season 2 & beyond collisions were done at the intersection of the Foothill Freeway (I-210) & the Simi Valley Freeway (HW 118), Sylmar CA. The cast includes Larry Wilcox (as “Jon Baker”), Erik Estrada (as “Ponch”), Robert Pine (as “Sgt Getraer”), Lew Saunders (as “Fritz”), Brodie Greer (as “Bear Baricza”), Paul Linke (as “Grossie”), Lou Wagner (as “Harlan”), Brianne Leary (as “Sindy Cahill”), Randi Oakes (as “Bonnie Clark”), Michael Dorn (as “Turner”), Tom Reilly (as “Hot Dog Nelson”), Tina Gayle (as “Kathy”), Bruce Penhall (as “Bruce Nelson”) & Clarence Gilyard Jr (as “Benjamin Webster”).
