“Knight Rider”, another childhood favorite of mine, originally aired 09/26/1982 – 04/04/1986 & was the last series Glen A Larson created & produced at Universal Television before he went to 20th Century Fox. The “star” of the show is KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand), portrayed by a slightly-modified 1982 Pontiac Trans Am. The cast includes David Hassellhoff (as “Michael Knight”, formerly “Michael Long”), William Daniels (voice of “KITT”), Edward Mulhare (as “Devon Miles”), Patricia McPherson (as “Dr Bonnie Barstow”), Rebecca Holden (as “April Curtis”), Peter Parros (as “Reginald Cornelius III”) & Richard Basehart (as “Wilton Knight”, creator of the Foundation For Law & Government). Michael & KITT appear in a 1984 2-part “Diff’rent Strokes” episode, in which they save Arnold & Dudley from a near on-set incident. This original series was followed by a bonafide sequel TV movie: 1991’s ‘Knight Rider 2000’. Hasselhoff & Mulhare reprised their respective rolls (with Miles being killed), while KITT 1st landed in Michael’s 1957 Chevrolet before being placed in his sporty new body (technically a Dodge Stealth with custom work to look like the Pontiac Banshee concept car). The movie was supposed to be a pilot for a new series starring Susan Norman as “Shawn McCormick”, but the series was never green-lighted. 2 other broadcasts were loosely-based on the original series: 1994’s TV movie ‘Knight Rider 2010’ & 1997’s TV series “Team Knight Rider”. Then, in 2008, a reboot of the series (with KITT now a Ford Mustang) lasted just 1 season.
