Remember this series!? What catches your spying-eye radar!?
While I haven’t been able to confirm it, I believe Hazzard County’s town square (in the above photo) appeared as the town square of Elmira in the 10/25/1974 “The Big Ripoff” episode of “The Rockford Files”, tho in that episode The Munster’s home is clearly seen.
“The Dukes Of Hazzard”, inspired by the 1975 movie ‘Moonrunners’, aired on CBS, 01/26/1979 – 02/08/1985. The 1st 5 episodes were filmed on location in Covington, Conyers & Atlanta GA; they also had a cruder & edgier feel than the family-friendly series we all know. As many times as guns were shot in the series, only once was someone actually hit, in 1 of those original 5 episodes. Originally airing at 9p on Friday nights, CBS moved this show to 8p as the series grew in popularity with the “younger crowd”. It was followed, then, by “Dallas”; at 1 point, “Dukes” ranked 2nd only to “Dallas” in terms of series ratings.
The cast included Tom Wopat (“Luke”), John Schneider (“Bo”), Catherine Bach (“Daisy”), Denver Pyle (“Uncle Jesse”), James Best (“Sheriff Rosco P Coltrane”), Sorrell Brooke (“Boss Hogg”), Ben Jones (“Cooter”), Sonny Shroyer (“Enos”), Rick Hurst (“Cletus”), Byron Cherry (“Coy”), Christopher Mayer (“Vance”) & Waylon Jennings (“Balladeer”, who also sang the immensely popular & well-known theme song).
Recurring cast members included Peggy Rea (“Lulu”), Lindsay Bloom (“Myrtle-Mabel Tillingham”), Ernie Lively (“Longstreet Davenport”), Jeff Altman (“Hughie Hogg”), Charlie Dell (“Emery Potter”), Patrick Cranshaw (“Doc”), Nedra Volz (“Miz Tisdale”), Don Pedro Colley (“Sheriff Ed Little”) & Ritchie Montgomery (“Elton”).
Guest appearances were quite numerous, including Robert Alda, Alan Autry, Janie Fricke, Dennis Haskins, Stepfanie Kramer, Loretta Lynn, Gerald McRaney, Roy Orbison, Johnny Paycheck, Kim Richards, Dick Sargent, Mel Tillis, Dottie West, Tammy Wynette, Cale Yarborough, Terry Labonte, Hoyt Axton, Donna Fargo, Freddy Fender, Doug Kershaw, The Oak Ridge Boys, Buck Owens & Mickey Gilley.
Last, but certainly not least, the vehicles: 1969 Dodge Charger (General Lee, which appeared in every episode except 1, the 3rd episode, “Mary Kaye’s Baby”); 1975 AMC Matador, 1972 Dodge Polara, 1974 Dodge Monaco, 1978 Plymouth Fury (Hazzard County police cars), 1974 Plymouth Road Runner (Daisy’s yellow with black stripe car), 1980 Jeep CJ-7 (Daisy’s “Golden Eagle”), Ford F-100-250 pickup (Uncle Jesse’s) & 1970 Cadillac Coupe De Ville convertible (white, Boss Hogg’s).
