2 songs from the 3rd hour of my 09/09/1995 college radio show: “Runaway Train” by Rosanne Cash & “Lucky Moon” by Oak Ridge Boys. Also featured: Ford Thunderbird, spotted 10/05/2015 by OC,SHer JEANNE D in Carpentersville IL….
#1 “Runaway Train” | Rosanne Cash
I have this song on vinyl! Debuting 08/13/1988, this single spent 23 weeks on the charts & claimed #1. It was her 5th straight chart topper, behind 1987’s “The Way We Make A Broken Heart”, 1987-8’s “Tennessee Flat Top Box”, 1988’s “It’s Such A Small World” (with Rodney Crowell, to whom she was married 1979-1992) & 1988’s “If You Change Your Mind”. This Memphis TN-native singer-songwriter is the daughter of Johnny Cash & Vivian Liberto; she notched 11 chart toppers during her career, which spanned late 1979 to early 1991. Other familiar favorites include 1981’s “7 Year Ache” (her 1st #1 tune) & 1985’s “I Don’t Know Why You Don’t Want Me” (#1).
#2 “Lucky Moon” | Oak Ridge Boys
Ever buy an album for just 1 song? That was me in this case! This single debuted 03/23/1991, spent 20 weeks on the charts & reached #6. I can’t put my finger on why this song is such a favorite of mine; it just is. So, when I had the chance, I bought the CD, 1991’s ‘Unstoppable’. None of the other songs released from the album as singles cracked the Top 40, including “Change My Mind” (a #10 tune for John Berry in 1996) & “Baby On Board”. This group formed in Oak Ridge TN with members Duane Allen, Joe Bonsall, William Lee Golden & Richard Sterban. Between mid 1973 & mid 1992, the band released 47 singles, 17 of which claimed #1, with an additional 17 reaching the Top 10. Familiar favorites include 1978’s “I’ll Be True To You” (their 1st #1), 1979’s “Dream On” (#7), 1980’s “Heart Of Mine” (#3), 1981’s “Elvira” (#1), 1982’s “Bobbie Sue” (#1), 1983’s “American Made” (#1), 1985-6’s “Come On In” (#3) & 1987’s “This Crazy Love” (#1).
I bought a Derek and the Dominos just to get Layla then found Bell Bottom Blues and Little Wing
