#1 “It Is What It Is” | Lifehouse
In late 2014, I helped a friend move from Peoria IL to Mt Morris IL by driving her vehicle between the 2 towns a few times with loads of her possessions. During those drives, I listened to a CD she had, Lifehouse’s 5th studio album, ‘Smoke & Mirrors’. Of course, I recognized the songs released as singles: 2007’s “From Where You Are”, 2009’s “Halfway Gone” (a collaboration with Kevin Rudolf), 2010’s “All In” & 2011’s “Falling In” (popular during my last road trip, late June to early July 2011’s “Coast-To-Coast” journey). But, this song [along with “Had Enough”, a collaboration with Chris Daughtry] struck me, as well. Timely for me, it described a few friendships I thought would be forever, but turned out not to be. The more I listened to this song, though, the more it resonated with other aspects of life … & I’m guessing we all can relate to the message in the lyrics in 1 way or another.
#2 “Keep Your Eye On The Sparrow” | Sammy Davis Jr
This song was the popular theme from TV’s Baretta (previously featured HERE). Written by Dave Grusin & Morgan Ames, this tune was originally an instrumental. Lyrics were added in later seasons of the show with Davis Jr singing; music was performed by the Los Angeles CA-based Latin Rock band, El Chicano. A show motto, “Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time”, was included in the lyrics. Released as a single in Europe in 1976, the song claimed #1 on the Dutch Top 40.
