‘Vertigo’ is a 1958 psychological thriller, directed & produced by Alfred Hitchcock. Based on the 1954 novel ‘From Among The Dead’ by Boileau-Narcejac, the screenplay was written by Alec Coppel & Samuel A Taylor. Shot on location in San Francisco CA, the film stars James Stewart, Kim Novak, Barbara Bel Geddes, Tom Helmore, Henry Jones, Ellen Corby, Konstantin Shayne, Raymond Bailey, Lee Patrick &, of course, Alfred Hitchcock in a cameo appearance. This movie is the 1st to use “dolly zoom”, an in-camera effect that distorts perspective to create disorientation by moving the camera (dolly) away from the subject while simultaneously zooming in on it; because of that, it is often known as “the Vertigo effect”. While the film received mixed reviews when released, it is now considered a classic Hitchcock film & 1 of his career’s defining works.
