CHAPTER 36: YET ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE
The gentleman from Illinois knew he had to be in touch with his contacts back in Illinois, but he didn’t know what to tell them. Somehow, he hadn’t figured someone, namely the shopkeeper, would catch them in the Route 66 town for a while before he was able to speak with the eldest sibling. He’d driven the Ford wagon for so long, it slipped his mind how it stood out in a crowd. A little late to realize that now, of course, but what’s done is done & it is what it is. Or so they say.
His companion of oh-so-many years, the grandmotherly woman, could easily have reminded him that she told him so, but she hadn’t. When he decided he’d drive to visit the eldest sibling in person, he asked her to stay in Illinois, but she had insisted on accompanying him. He was thrilled to have her along for the ride, but now, wondered about her calm demeanor. Maybe she thought her presence was enough of an “I told you so”. Yep, that was probably it.
Back to thinking about what to do now, the gentleman wasn’t sure. He’d said what he had to tell the eldest & now had to trust everything would work out. Yet, the shopkeeper worried him. Rightly so, since he & the eldest undoubtedly had an established rapport. However, the gentleman wasn’t TOO worried, since the eldest & his younger brother were in the process of planning a Route 66 road trip & would be in Illinois anyway.
The gentleman rubbed his hand over his forehead, took a deep breath, picked up the hotel room phone & dialed a number….
Two thumbs up
