WEDNESDAY WRAP

CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES

NEW TIME!

With the “CD Showcase Memories” theme eliminated (at least temporarily), songs are now featured in this theme & “CarTunes Saturday” (8a US central). To jump start this feature, a TV series theme & a duet….

#1 “I’m Always Here” | Jimi Jamison
The original theme of “Baywatch” (1989-2001) was the song “Save Me”, performed by Peter Cetera (from his 1988 album ‘1 More Story’), with Bonnie Raitt on guitar & Richard Sterban (bass singer, The Oak Ride Boys) as a backing vocalist. When the series transitioned to 1st-run syndication, the theme became this song (full version in this video), performed by Jamison (Survivor). Written by Jamison, Cory Lerios, John D’Andrea & Joe Henry, this song (in instrumental version) was also used for the 1st season of “Baywatch Hawaii”, technically season 10 of “Baywatch”.

FYI: After cancellation following a bleak 1st season in the ratings, David Hasselhoff (formerly of “Knight Rider”) led efforts to keep the show alive &, in syndication, the series took off in the United States & across the pond. The show featured a number of actors & actresses, but Hasselhoff was the mainstay, appearing in 10 of the 11 seasons. The cast also included Parker Stevenson, Shawn Weatherly, Billy Warlock, Erika Eleniak, Peter Phelps, Brandon Call, Jeremy Jackson, Monte Markham, John Allen Nelson, Gregory Alan Williams, Nicole Eggert, David Charvet, Pamela Anderson, Kelly Slater, Alexandra Paul, Yasmine Bleeth, Jaason Simmons, David Chokachi & Michael Newman (as himself).

#2 “You’re The Reason God Made OK” | David Frizzell & Shelly West
This song hit the airwaves 01/17/1981, spent 17 weeks on the country charts & claimed #1. From the movie ‘Any Which Way You Can’ starring Clint Eastwood (sequel to the film ‘Every Which Way But Loose’), this song was Frizzell’s 1st chart topper; his only other #1 tune was 1982’s “I’m Gonna Hire A Wino To Decorate Our Home”. This single was also the 1st chart topper for West (daughter of Dottie West); her only other #1 hit was 1983’s “Jose Cuervo”, tho she notched 5 other Top 10s, including 1982’s “I Just Came Here To Dance” (#4) & 1983’s “Flight 309 To Tennessee” (#4).
