This edition features a pair of country duos, both theme songs….
#1
This song debuted 04/25/1987, spent 18 weeks on the charts & peaked at #4; it was the last Top 10 tune for both singers. Morris & Gayle performed this song on TV’s “Another World”, & the tune quickly became the show’s theme. Morris’ singing career (late 1980 to early 1991) featured 5 chart toppers & 11 additional Top 10 tunes. Gayle’s career (mid-late 1970 to late 1990) included 18 #1 tunes & 16 additional Top 10s.
#2
This song was also a theme of sorts; more on that in a bit. Hitting the airwaves 02/07/1987, this song spent 21 weeks on the charts & peaked at #4. For the San Antonio TX-native singer-songwriter-guitarist Dunn, this was her 2nd Top 10, behind 1986’s “Daddy’s Hands” (#7). Her career started as a staff writer at CBS & MTM Records & as a DJ for Detroit MI’s WWWW. Her singing career (mid 1985 to mid 1995) included 2 chart toppers & 7 more Top 10s. For the Oak Cliff TX-native singer-songwriter-guitarist Murphey, this was his 7th Top 10. His career started as a staff writer for Screen Gems; he also acted in the movies ‘Take This Job & Shove It’ & ‘Hard Country’. His singing career (early 1976 to early-mid 1991) featured 2 chart toppers & 10 more Top 10s. Regarding this being a theme song: back in college, a friend & I decided we could write a better soap opera than what was on TV. So, we started to write & it quickly took off. Called “Face In The Crowd”, we chose this song as the theme. My honors advisor found out about our project & suggested I turn it into my senior year honors thesis. So, I did. I wrote 4 actual episodes & a paper about the history of soap operas.
