Michael W Smith co-wrote this song, “Friends” (a favorite of mine), with his wife Deborah & 1st recorded it for his debut solo album, 1983’s ‘The Michael W Smith Project’, which he self-produced while he was Amy Grant’s opening act. Later familiar tunes from him include 1990’s “Place In This World” (#6, Billboard Hot 100 chart) from his ‘Go West Young Man’ album & 1992’s “I Will Be Here For You” from his ‘Change Your World’ album.

This song debuted 05/11/2002, spent 30 weeks on the country charts & peaked at #12 (I think it should’ve placed higher!); it crossed over & reached #71 on the Billboard Hot 100. Some of that success is attributed to its use in the TV series & soundtrack “Providence”. This single proved to be this Salyersville KY-native singer-songwriter’s only Top 40 entry. Of 6 other releases mid 1999 to early 2005, the closest was 2003’s “What A Shame” (#43).
