Remember this series!? What catches your spying-eye radar!?
“Baretta”, a detective series, aired on ABC 1975-1978 & was a revised (milder) continuation of “Toma”, an ABC series that aired for 1 season, 1973-1974, starring Tony Musante in the title roll. When Musante left the series, the concept was retooled with Robert Blake in the title roll. “Toma” had received intense criticism for its realistic & frequent depiction of police & criminal violence, something that is more than commonplace today. “Baretta”, however, toned it down, centering on Detective Baretta. The “car star” is Baretta’s rusted-out mist blue 1966 Impala sedan, nicknamed “The Blue Ghost”, license plate 532 BEN. Baretta, who wore many disguises on the job, is an unorthodox plainclothes cop who lives in apartment 2C of the run-down King Edward Hotel in an unnamed Eastern city & has a cockatoo named Fred. The cast also includes Tom Ewell, Michael D Roberts, Dana Eclar, Edward Grover, John Ward, Chino ‘Fats’ Williams, Ron Thompson, Angelo Rossitto, Tito Vandis & Paul Lichtman.
