CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES

THEME = Remake Wednesday: original (Randy VanWarmer) & cover (Dolly Parton)

Today’s feature is “Just When I Needed You Most”….

#1 (original)
VanWarmer was inspired to write this song (co-written with Tony Wilson) by a devastating breakup with a girlfriend. Released February 1979 from his album ‘Warner’, this single claimed #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart for 2 weeks, while reaching #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. It crossed over, but only registered at #71 on the country charts. Internationally, it reached #8 in England.

#2 (cover)
While other artists such as Tim McGraw, Donna Fargo, Skeeter Davis, Conway Twitty, Bob Dylan & Billy Joe Royal have recorded this song, Dolly Parton’s version is the best known. Hitting the airwaves 10/05/1996 from her album ‘Treasures’, this single inexplicably spent just 10 weeks on the country charts, peaking at #62.
