Day 12, 09/16/2009, of my Route 66 road trip started in Barstow CA & ended in Rialto-San Bernardino CA, with notable stops along the way in Helendale, Oro Grande & Victorville. I was able to sleep in a bit today & left the hotel ~9:45a to meet OC,SHer MARILYN P & her husband at the Route 66 Mother Road Museum, which is housed in the 1910-era Casa Del Desierto, a former Harvey House. I snapped this photo of them in front of their 1957 Chevrolet just before we went into the museum ~10a:
We had a wonderful time & had a cool conversation with museum curator-manager & OC,SHer DEB H. With Marilyn & her husband following me, we left Barstow just before quarter till noon, arriving in Helendale to see the Bottle Tree Ranch ~noon. After a brief stop in Oro Grande, we arrived in Victorville ~12:45p & spent over an hour at Emma Jean’s Holland Burger Cafe-Truck Stop, eating a scrumptious lunch & having a wonderful & humorous conversation with our waitress. Then, we traveled to downtown Victorville to check out a few sites, including the New Corral Motel, before arriving at the California Route 66 Museum for our afternoon appointment. We spent just over an hour here, too, with Marilyn & her husband leaving ~4:30p to head home. A half hour later, I hit the road to meet my cousin, Julianne, for dinner in Rancho Cucamonga. I arrived ~6p, she ~6:30p. After we ate, I called the WigWam Motel to see if they had any rooms left … 1 … so I took it. We arrived ~8p & spent a half hour looking around before calling it a night.
That all seems so familuar. Ha
