In honor of the 2015-16 NFL pre-season, a look at Balboa Stadium, a football & soccer field (1405 Park Boulevard, San Diego CA, just east of SD High School). Originally built in 1914 as part of the 1915 Panama-California Exposition, it was designed by the Quayle Brothers architectural firm & was originally called City Stadium. Capacity was expanded to 34,000 (from 15,000) & it served as the San Diego Chargers home, 1961-1966. The stadium (pictured here in the 1960s) was demolished & replaced with a smaller 3,000-capacity stadium in 1978. The current stadium is home for several area high schools, the SD Track Club & SD Boca FC, a professional outdoor soccer team.
