THEME = recreation: featuring Highway 101 & Fleetwood Mac
2 songs from the 9p-10p timeframe of my 04/06/2007 radio show….
#1
When this group debuted on the country charts with their 1st release (1987’s “The Bed You Made For Me”, #4), it seemed they’d have a long, successful career. That didn’t happen, as it lasted ~6 years. This song, their 2nd release, hit the airwaves 05/23/1987, spent 23 weeks on the charts & peaked at #2. 3 straight chart toppers followed: 1987’s “Somewhere Tonight” (2 weeks), 1988’s “Cry, Cry, Cry” & 1988’s “Just Say Yes”. Their streak of Top 10s reached 10 in early 1990, including 1 additional chart topper in 1989-90’s “Who’s Lonely Now”. But then, original vocalist Paulette Carlson left the band. With replacement Nikki Nelson, the band failed to notch another Top 10, coming as close as #14 with 1991’s “Bing Bang Boom”, their last Top 20 tune.
#2
Written by Christine McVie & Eddy Quintela, this song was released 08/29/1987 as the 3rd single from this band’s 1987 album ‘Tango In The Night’ & reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 while claiming #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Elsewhere, the song notched in the Top 10 in 6 other countries, including Ireland (#4), New Zealand (#9), Switzerland (#3) & England (#5).
