Sheena Easton, famous for her duet with Kenny Rogers (“We’ve Got Tonight”) sings co-lead, though she isn’t credited on the single release. #2
This song was originally recorded & released 07/31/1964 by Martha & The Vandellas; that version reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Van Halen’s 1982 version reached #38 on the Billboard Hot 100 & #3 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks charts. Then, as part of a Live Aid event in 1985, Mick Jagger & David Bowie performed this song. They were originally going to do it live, with Bowie at Wembley Stadium & Jagger at JFK Stadium, but the satellite link made that impossible. So, the duo recorded a video which was shown at the event. The single, then, was put together & released 08/12/1985; that version reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart & claimed #1 in England. Elsewhere, it also hit the top spot in Australia & Ireland, while reaching the Top 10 in 5 additional countries: Austria (#6), Germany (#6), Norway (#3), Sweden (#4) & Switzerland (#9).
